Orochimarovou specialitou jsou zakázané techniky, které se provádějí za pomocí cizích duší. Jeho vlastní zakázanou technikou, kterou vymyslel, je, že se může vyhnout smrti. Svou mysl přesune do jiného těla, které mu slouží jako další dočasná schránka. Tuto techniku může provést jen jednou za určitý časový interval. Orochimaru je také velmi nadaný pro techniky týkající se hadů (z toho plyne i jeho jméno, více dále). Umí přivolat hady různých velikostí a moci, například hadí boss Manda, který se silou vyrovná Gamabuntovi, kterého přivolává Jiraiya a Katsuyu , kterou přivolává Tsunade. Jeho vzhled hraničí se vzhledem nestvůry, má velmi bledou kůži, úzké oči a prodlužovací hadí jazyk (tento jazyk je vlastně trvalé Jutsu, které umožní uživateli prodloužit tuto část těla do nekonečné délky). Jazyk používá jako zbraň. Orochimaru má jedinečnou schopnost ztrácet nebo opravovat svou kůži tak snadno, jako ostatní mění své oblečení. Dokonce i Morino Ibiki, člověk, který prošel mnoha mučeními, a expert na výslechy, připustil, že když ho viděl poprvé, tak byl velmi vystrašený a byl přesvědčený, že to, co stálo před ním, nebyl muž, ale něco jiného, co si pouze obléklo lidskou kůži.
